furnished vs unfurnished condo in mexico

Is it better to buy a furnished or unfurnished condo in Mexico?

How to decide if to buy an unfurnished or furnished property in Mexico

Of all the decisions you will make during your property search in Mexico, none will be more difficult than deciding between buying a furnished or unfurnished condo.

There are compelling arguments on both sides.

On one hand, you could save yourself a lot of time and hassle by purchasing a condo unit that is already furnished.

And if you’re renting it out, then buying furnished as an option becomes doubly attractive because there is no risk of angering future guests with mismatched decor.

And purchasing a condo unit that’s already furnished can save you a great deal of time and hassle.

Because when you need to furnish your Mexican condo, you have to make all of your purchases separately, which means more time shopping for furniture and accessories.

On top of that, you need to arrange for all of this furniture to be delivered and set up. Furnishing your own space takes time and planning and it can be quite stressful.

On the other hand, furnishing your own place gives you a chance to customize every aspect of the space and design it exactly how you want.

If you plan on living in your condo either full-time or part-time then why not spend a little more to make it the way you want it to be.

In addition, some condos are limited in what they allow buyers to change about the place, so some units may come pre-furnished regardless of whether or not you want them to be.

With all that being said here is when you should decide to buy furnished or unfurnished in Mexico.

When you should buy a furnished condo in Mexico

If you are not planning on being in your condo in Mexico for more than a few years, or if you don’t plan on making it your primary residence, then it makes much more sense to buy a furnished condo.

Purchasing the furniture will be inefficient and a waste of time and money.

Additionally, buying furnished is better if you are buying a studio or smaller one-bedroom residence, as these have quirky dimensions that make finding properly fitting furniture a chore.

Finally, if you plan on vacation renting out your condo in Mexico when you are not using it then going the furnished route can be easier.

When you should buy an unfurnished condo in Mexico

If you already have the desire to furnish your Mexican condo, then you should buy an unfurnished condo.

While it is true that many people are interested in purchasing an unfurnished condo in Mexico, few actually do.

Why? Because they don’t know how to furnish it!

However buying an unfurnished condo and simply moving in is perfectly acceptable for some, but those who want a beautiful Mexican condo—and are marketing the condo to vacationers—may want to consider hiring an interior designer to craft a bespoke residence.

Remember the key is buying furniture that won’t break down and can withstand the wear and tear of vacationers.

This is why buying a condo furnished is an appealing idea as the furniture is selected especially for the vacation rental market wear and tear. And generally, the furniture can be easier to replace if needed by the property managers or by yourself.

When you do you not have the choice on buying furnished or furnished in Mexico?

You won’t have the choice to buy an unfurnished condo in Mexico if it is part of a rental program.

Developers require you to have their furniture package in order to participate in the scheme and in most cases this cost is included in the final selling price.

Though not all condos in Mexico have a rental program. Some condos allow you to vacation rent your property on your own. Often called “Free administration” which means you can manage it by yourself.

But sometimes different condominiums have different allowances for their owners. It is best to ask a real estate agent to research this for you when it comes to finding out.
