How houses are built in Mexico?

Learn about the construction of houses in Mexico

In Mexico, unlike in the United States, most homes are built with concrete blocks rather than wood. The roofs are made using poured concrete beams that create a frame for the rafters. The inside walls are also made from concrete block and covered with stucco on the outside of the home. Concrete slabs cover all floors in a typical Mexican home.

Mexican houses also do not have basements, as they are built above ground level so they can withstand earthquakes better than homes built with wood frames which tend to shake during an earthquake and collapse. Most houses don’t have sheetrock walls either, because it is not essential to finish off the walls in this way. It is common to use paint instead or even add tile or wallpaper over top of plaster if you wish to decorate your house further.

You will also notice that roofs aren’t covered with shingles but rather a type of flat material called ‘teja’ which is used frequently throughout Latin America. This material makes sense for hot climates where it is important to keep cool as much as possible and allows rainwater runoff more easily without any issues of decay occurring since it is made from clay tiles rather than wood-like shingles typically are!

Mexican style of building homes is different, you don’t get Sheetrock walls and you typically don’t have a basement.

For those who are thinking about building a house in Mexico, you’re going to want to keep in mind that the style of building homes is different. You don’t get Sheetrock walls and you typically don’t have a basement.

The typical way of building houses here is with concrete block and the roofs are made with concrete beams. All of the roofs are flat because they put on top of them, these big slabs of concrete that have rebar in it and then they cover that concrete with gravel. It’s basically one big slab, but it’s broken up into sections as far as what rooms go over there and that’s how they do their plumbing. So all the pipes run under there and then they’ll have a bathroom or kitchen wherever they need to be.

Really you can build homes out of whatever materials you want, but this is how most people do it down here when they’re just using normal Mexican construction techniques. There’s also no basements here because the ground water level is so high, so you’ve got to worry about water coming over if anyone has an issue where it could possibly flood.

Foundations and walls

The first step in building a house is to pour the foundation. The process begins with pouring concrete into an aluminum or wooden form that sets the shape of your footing, and then includes installing steel reinforcement bars, or rebar. Once the footing has cured for a minimum of one day, an aluminum or wooden form is set up around it and another concrete pour is made. This forms the perimeter wall for the house. The walls are then covered with a stucco finish that can be painted any color you choose.

Concrete block wall construction has become more popular in Mexico in recent years since it allows owners to construct houses quickly and inexpensively. Building houses from concrete block also reduces moisture problems often encountered with wood frame construction.

There are two main type of foundations, that can be used in Mexico. Slab-on-grade and basement foundations.

Basement foundations are not commonly used in Mexico. Basements are more common in regions where the ground freezes and expands, causing cracks in slab-on-grade foundations. However, basement foundations can be built if you have a house design that requires one, or when the soil conditions require it. For example, if you live on a steep hillside with very little flat land where a slab-on-grade foundation would extend beyond your buildable area on a slope.

Foundations must be built according to the location of your site and the quality of the soil at that location. Mexican houses that sit on sand will have different foundations than those built-in rocky areas or clay soils.

Roofs are made with concrete beams, the roof is then covered with metal sheets or concrete tiles.

Concrete beams are typically used in the construction of heavy roofs. Lighter-weight metal sheets and concrete tiles are used if the slope is greater. However, if you’re building a house that requires wooden beams, they should be treated to prevent termites and rot. You can also use steel I-beams in your roof construction.

Reasons for using concrete in construction in Mexico.

Concrete is a material that is widely used in the construction of houses in Mexico. There are several reasons why this is the case. Concrete is cheap, easy to get, and easy to work with. It can be made locally, and it does not decay or burn. It is also easy to maintain and clean, as well as being resistant to insects such as termites.

The reason for these advantages can be seen by looking at the purposes concrete was invented for—things like creating a waterproof seal on an object (concrete can fill up small gaps), connecting 2 things together (concrete can connect 2 thin wooden beams together without making them thicker) or fixing things that have been damaged (concrete can patch holes in walls).

The roof can also be supported by wooden beams and the roof is made with wooden planks, which are then covered with clay tiles.

There are two ways that the roof can be supported. The first is by using a concrete ceiling with columns, or large pieces of wood, which are then covered with wooden planks and clay tiles. The second way is to use long wooden beams on top of the walls, which are also covered with wooden planks and clay tiles.

The roof can also be supported by wooden beams and the roof is made with wooden planks, which are then covered with clay tiles.

The wood used in houses here is usually strong, but after a few years it will start to rot from dampness. For this reason most people prefer to use metal sheets or concrete tiles for the roof instead of wood.

Summary

As you learned in previous sections, traditional Mexican houses are built with a pole foundation, which is made of hardwood posts. The house is then built using adobe bricks or roughly cut stone. As well, the roof can also be supported by wooden beams and the roof is made with wooden planks, which are then covered with clay tiles.

On the other hand, contemporary houses are built using concrete foundations and steel rebar columns. Roofs are made with concrete beams, the roof is then covered with metal sheets or concrete tiles.
